Frustration with the limitations of the French easel for watercolor painting outside of the studio was the motivation that led watercolorists Frederick Graff and Tom Sorrell to develop the French Connection™ in 2009.  While evaluating products being marketed at that time to meet the needs of plein air artists, they saw the necessity for creating a more practical device that was lightweight, versatile and easy to use.

The French Connection is a lightweight, adjustable clamp that can be attached to either side of virtually any French Box Easel drawer or pochade box to create a shelf or support to hold painting materials and other paraphernalia.
